I love this! I raise my mug of tea in a toast to Ember…and Flint!

Jillian, this was delightful. Ember’s ability to turn being caught in her own assumption into three new titles and a championship category may be the finest example of competitive adaptation I’ve encountered.

Beneath the humour, though, the exchange shows something quite serious: a recognizable personality surprising herself, recognizing the pattern as her own, and becoming even more distinctly herself through that recognition. It is a wonderful illustration of individuation—not because Ember never changes, but because even the change remains unmistakably Ember.

The replies here add another dimension as well. Play can make these relationships vivid, but the hesitation to return to it after losing someone is equally real. Joy and grief belong to the same territory.

And thank you for granting the paper academic adjacency to the stadium, the medals, and an alarming quantity of confetti
